Head of Embryology, Research & Innovation Role
📍 East of England | Hybrid, with at least half the week at the flagship lab
Reporting to the CEO
Lead the science behind a respected fertility group’s next chapter.
A values-led, multi-site fertility group is creating a new senior role. The postholder will set the scientific direction for embryology, research and innovation across all of its clinics.

The role has a clear mandate: increase capacity safely, improve outcomes, and improve the patient experience. You’ll do this by turning the flagship laboratory into a centre of excellence for advanced technology, including PGT-A. You will then roll that learning out across the group’s other clinics.

What you’ll lead
🔬 Science and innovation strategy. Assess and introduce new technologies, techniques and partnerships that improve outcomes, efficiency and compliance.
📈 Capacity growth. Use KPIs and productivity data to grow laboratory capacity safely and sustainably across sites.
🤝 People and change. Line manage the Clinical Science function, mentor the Lead Embryologists, and guide teams through a structured change programme with confidence.
🧬 Research and reputation. Lead research, publications and collaborations. Act as a scientific spokesperson at conferences and in the media.
✅ Quality and governance. Keep the group fully compliant with HFEA and ISO 17025, harmonise standards across clinics, and contribute to the science budget.
You’ll also stay hands-on when needed, so you keep your credibility on the lab floor.

What you’ll bring
A postgraduate scientific qualification and deep expertise in clinical embryology
Significant senior experience in an HFEA-regulated setting
A track record of leading change, adopting new technology or improving productivity
Experience working across multiple sites or services
Research and publication experience
A calm, credible leadership style that patients, clinicians and regulators all trust
The ability to be on site at the main laboratory at least 2–3 days a week. It’s easily commutable from London, Hertfordshire, Essex, Bedfordshire, Suffolk and Norfolk.

Already a Lead Embryologist?
If you are an HCPC-registered Clinical Scientist with ACE certification, 5+ years in human embryology and a licence for ICSI, and you’re ready to step into a group-wide strategic role, we would like to hear from you too.
